During times of crisis, rates of unintended pregnancies, child marriage, and sexual violence increase, putting more women and girls’ futures at risk. But your continued support helps give more women like Maria a chance at a better life.   

Early and unintended pregnancy due to lack of information, child marriage, violence, and social norms continue to jeopardize millions of lives — especially for those in regions like East Africa, where an estimated 21.6 million women and girls have unintended pregnancies every year. The long-term effects can be catastrophic.   

Without a vision for her future, Maria’s unplanned pregnancy could have resulted in a lifetime of financial distress, dependency on a partner, and more unplanned pregnancies. But radio programs like Ouro Negro, help empower millions of women and girls like Maria to become self-sufficient and take back their futures.
