1. Project Summary

Due to the open border, studies estimate that 17–38% of Nepali migrant workers go to India, amounting to 0.8–1.7 million people, many of them youths. So, the program will train 150 underprivileged youths from Barbardiya and Baijanath to reduce unemployment and migration by providing CBT-based skills, ICT, and services. Trainees receive job placement, and entrepreneurship support, with 70% expected to gain jobs or start businesses. The project links youth with employers, cooperatives, municipalities, and financial institutions for lasting impact.

Challenges

Because of poor economic conditions, Rural youth in Barbariya and Baijanath face high unemployment, scarce certified training, and skills mismatches with market needs. Low income and migration pressures persist, with added barriers for women, Dalits, and marginalized groups. Limited post-training job and finance support worsens the gap. The project addresses these by offering market-based digital training linked to employment pathways.

Solution

The project provides market-based CBT training to 150 youths in ICT, digital skills, and Makeup Artist and Beautician, addressing unemployment, skill gaps, and migration in Banke and Bardiya. It links trainees to jobs, finance, and entrepreneurship support, ensuring 70% employment or self-employment. Focus on women, Dalit, and indigenous youth and strong municipal and private-sector partnerships ensures long-term sustainability.

Long-term impact

The project will reduce unemployment and risky migration by equipping marginalized youth with marketable skills and linking them to jobs and finance. Families gain stable incomes, women achieve greater economic independence, and local businesses access skilled workers. Strong municipal partnerships ensure continued training, helping build resilient, self-reliant communities in Banke and Bardiya.

Project progress:

During this period, WACD team visited to the Women group and discussed about the project implementation in our working area in Banke and Bardiya districts of Nepal.

3. Problem the Project Addresses

• Because of poor economic conditions, Rural youth in Barbariya and Baijanath face high unemployment,
• scarce certified training, and skills mismatches with market needs.

The project addresses these by offering market-based digital training linked to employment pathways.

These issues particularly affect Tharu communities and former Kamaiya families, many of whom are forced to depend on unstable wage labor or migrate for risky work opportunities.

4. Project Approach and Planned Activities

To address these challenges, the project focuses Empower Deprived Youth Through Digital Skills. Through school development training:

• The project provides market-based CBT training to 150 youths in ICT, digital skills, and Makeup Artist and Beautician, addressing unemployment, skill gaps, and migration in Banke and Bardiya.
• It links trainees to jobs, finance, and entrepreneurship support, ensuring 70% employment or self-employment.

Once implemented, the project will benefit hundreds of individuals and families through:

7. Next Steps

During the next reporting period, the project team plans to:

• Continue fundraising and donor engagement
• Begin community mobilization and beneficiary selection
• Coordinate with local stakeholders and technical institutions
