Uganda loses an estimated 122,000 hectares of forest annually, while climate change continues to threaten children's health, education, and livelihoods. Through Environmental and Green Clubs, Joy for Children Uganda will empower schoolchildren to become climate champions by leading conservation campaigns, clean-up drives, school greening, environmental debates, upcycled gardens, and charcoal briquette production for sustainable communities.
Uganda faces severe environmental degradation driven by deforestation, plastic pollution, wetland destruction, and poor waste management. Children inherit these consequences despite contributing least to them. Environmental education remains limited in many schools, leaving young people without practical skills to conserve ecosystems or influence community behavior toward sustainable environmental practices.
National Level 1. Environmental Education: We will complement Uganda's climate and environmental policies by integrating practical environmental conservation through child-led Green Clubs in schools, nurturing a generation of informed climate advocates and responsible environmental stewards. Local / Community Level 2. Green Clubs: Establish and mentor child-led Environmental Clubs in schools. 3. Climate Action: Train children to lead clean-up drives, debates, and environmental awareness campaign
1. 10,000 children will become lifelong environmental ambassadors promoting sustainable practices. 2. Schools and surrounding communities will experience cleaner, greener, and healthier environments. 3. Increased tree planting, waste recycling, and briquette production will reduce deforestation and carbon emissions. 4. Child-led climate action will strengthen Uganda's environmental resilience while inspiring future generations to protect natural resources and advance sustainable development.
