For years, 34-year-old Melisa planted recycled maize seed. Her field gave him only 15 bags. It was never enough to feed her family of six for the year, let alone sell.
This season, Kukula Solar supported her with 10kg of certified maize seed and 10kg of certified soyabeans, plus training on good farming practices.
The difference was clear from the start. The crops grew strong and even.
At harvest, Melisa got 48 bags of maize from the same small piece of land — three times more than before. From her soyabeans, she harvested 7 bags which she sold for 3,500 Kwacha.
"For the first time, my granary is full and my children will eat three meals every day. I have paid school fees and still have money left," Joseph says.
She now keeps some soyabeans for nutritious porridge for her children.
With Kukula Solar, $40 gives one smallholder farmer certified seed and training to triple their harvest and feed their family for a whole year.
