Community Empowerment and Training Program completed!
More than 30 communities from 12 neighborhoods near the María Aguilar and Torres rivers with the participation of more than 100 people per month, took part in in 6 workshops from February 2018 to October 2018 in the Community Empowerment and Training Program.
In the last two workshops, a Participatory Design was carried out, to identifying through a collective mapping, the positive elements and strengths; the problems and opportunities to improve the quality of life in the community and in relation to the rivers.
From design to action!
Thanks to the needs highlighted by the communities, a plan for the rehabilitation of the biological corridor of 2.9 hectares of the banks of the Torres River was developed, for the first kilometer of the routes, by planting of 680 individuals of 49 different native, endangered and endemic species and elimination of the invasive genus called elephant grass that is inhibiting the growth of the native species and fauna.
What´s Next?
At the end of this 8-month program, the foundations for a future process that will address the "Community Management" will be established. In addition, a fundraising campaign was launched in GlobalGiving Reforestation of Costa Rica's urban riverbanks, We invite you to support this project!

¡Programa de Empoderamiento y Capacitación Comunitaria completado!
Más de 30 comunidades de 12 vecindarios cercanos a los ríos María Aguilar y Torres y con la participación de más de 100 personas por mes, completaron 6 talleres desde Febrero 2018 hasta Octubre 2018.
En los últimos dos talleres del programa se realizó un Diseño Participativo, cuya dinámica principal logróidentificar a través de un mapeo colectivo, los elementos positivos y fortalezas; las problemáticas y oportunidades para mejorar la calidad de vida en comunidad y en relación con los ríos.
¡Del diseño a la acción!
Gracias a las necesidades destacadas por las comunidades se desarrolló un plan de rehabilitación del corredor biológico en 2.9 hectáreas de la rivera del Río Torres que se ubica en el primer kilómetro de las rutas, que requiere plantar 680 individuos de 49 diferentes especies nativas, algunas amenazadas y endémicas en nuestro país. Además de la eliminación de especies invasoras como el zacate elefante que inhibe la regeneración boscosa y amenaza el habitat de la fauna.
¿Qué sigue?
Al cierre de este programa de 8 meses se establecieron las bases para un futuro proceso que abordará el "Enlace Comunal y de Autogestión". Además, se lanzó la campaña de recaudación de fondos en GlobalGiving Reforestation of Costa Rica's urban riverbanks, en la que confiamos también tener tu apoyo!
