Over the past few months, we have been able to move forward with our project to benefit 2,410 children through the implementation of school vegetable gardens across the country.
Throughout this journey, we have supported several schools in setting up their vegetable gardens, as well as in training teachers, students, and families in the school community on these topics.
A great example
One noteworthy example is School No. 605 in Paraje de la Costa, Icaño, Santiago del Estero. This school is located in a remote rural area far from nearby towns and cities, and 26 children attend—some of whom walk or ride horseback for several kilometers just to get to class. This is a vulnerable community, where cases of malnutrition are present among both students and their families, and where basic services such as running water and electricity are lacking.
In this context, Fundación Huerta Niño was able to travel and support the school in developing its garden project, which will serve not only as a tool for food production but also as a learning space, enabling children to bring this knowledge back to their homes.
We organized a building day with the families and donated the necessary materials so that the school can develop and maintain this project.
This garden will help solve a key issue faced by this community: the significant difficulty in accessing fruits and vegetables. They are only able to obtain these types of foods when they travel to the nearest town—something that sometimes happens just once a month. This way, children will be guaranteed the possibility of maintaining a diverse and nutritious diet.
Working across the country
We were also able to support schools located in other regions of the country, such as in Guernica—a part of "Gran" Buenos Aires that faces many challenges and situations of vulnerability. In this area, we supported four schools (Preschools 918, 909, 910, and 905) in the development of their school gardens, not only by donating key materials and supplies, but also by working with children and teachers to provide training in agroecological gardening and healthy eating.
We also supported schools in Rosario, Santa Fé, Córdoba, Mar del Plata, and Cipoletti, visiting them, providing technical advice, tools, resources, and workshops to help them continue working on their vegetable garden projects.
¡Thank you!
At Fundación Huerta Niño, we are proud to see how these green spaces evolve year after year.
But none of this would be possible without you.
Thank you for continuing to help us help. Because every contribution you make helps sow the future in a school.
