Back Together to Keep Planting Hope

By Maria Cristina Grieco | Alliances and International Cooperation

Kindergarten N918, Guernica (Buenos Aires)
Kindergarten N918, Guernica (Buenos Aires)

This year began with more than new plantings. It began with reunions.

During March and April, thanks to the donations received, we were able to visit several schools that are part of our educational program. We walked through their gardens again, listened to their teachers, and saw the children proudly tending those green spaces they had once only imagined.

With the USD 650 raised since January, we took a fundamental step: being present once again.
This amount allowed us to reach the schools, reconnect with educators, assess the progress, and plan next steps together. While it is not enough to build a new garden, it gave us the push we needed to get moving again.

And today, we want to share three stories that are blooming once more:

A garden that grows with dreams – Kindergarten N°918, Guernica (Buenos Aires)

Kindergarten N°918 in Guernica began sowing more than just plants a few years ago: they planted commitment, teamwork, and love for the land.

In 2023, we had the joy of supporting their garden project with a perimeter fence, raised beds, soil, tools, and seedlings of aromatic herbs and vegetables.

In 2024, that dream began to take root: the garden grew stronger and started to sow the future within the community, and with it came native trees that now offer shade and hope.

This year we visited the school again, as it continues to be part of our educational program. Their new dream is to build a greenhouse.
We hope to continue walking beside them on this path where every seed holds a future.

A garden that keeps growing – School N°11 "Fortunato de la Plaza", Mar del Plata (Buenos Aires)

School N°11 has been cultivating knowledge, care, and fertile soil for over three years. Their school garden does more than produce food — it raises awareness. Here, students make natural insect repellents, agroecological fertilizers, and compost their waste to close the cycle.

In 2023, we were able to support them with a perimeter fence, tools, hoses, watering cans, raised beds, and high-quality soil, ideal for their vegetable crops.

Today, the dream is to expand the fenced area and add a composting station to improve their production even further.

We hope to continue walking beside this school that, with every sprout, teaches us to care for the planet.

Sowing hope again – School N°540, Rosario (Santa Fe)

School N°540 in Rosario started its garden project six years ago with great enthusiasm. But like many initiatives, the pandemic and staff turnover put the dream on hold.

In 2023, we helped revive the garden alongside teachers and students: we donated a perimeter fence, raised beds, soil, compost, vegetables, herbs, and even fruit trees.

Today, the garden is alive again — growing with every hand that nurtures it.

Their new dream is to build a greenhouse to keep learning, growing, and sharing.

We are committed to accompanying them in this second opportunity, because every seed planted is a story coming back to life.

The gardens keep growing, and we are not alone

With great joy, we share that during March and April we visited and surveyed schools that are part of our educational program.

These institutions were supported in previous years and today we continue to walk alongside them, monitoring the progress of each garden.

It was a meaningful experience to reconnect with teachers, students, and their communities — and to see that these projects are still alive, growing with dedication and care.

We know the first months of the school year are filled with academic challenges, yet the gardens are already taking their first steps this cycle. And the progress is significant.

At Fundación Huerta Niño, we are proud to see how these green spaces evolve year after year.
But none of this would be possible without you.

Thank you for continuing to help us help. Because every contribution you make helps sow the future in a school.
