How do you feel about birds? We love Birds and in March we celebrated the 3th International Festival of Migratory Birds and the Birdathon 2016 in the Peninsula of Osa, where our field station Dr. Alvaro Wille Trejos is located.
Imagine observing more than 200 species of birds in a single day? We did it together with other organizations and many people gathered to celebrate the birds. With guided walks, lectures, trainings, contests and games we contributed to sensitize communities of the importance of migration that perform year after year birds from Canada and the United States to South America, and the threats facing tropical birds.
The Birdathon is a competition to crown the team that achieves more birds spotted during a tour of the peninsula. Our foundation led the team “Reinita protonotaria” ( Prothonotary Warbler ) , which bears the name of one of the migratory species that visit our country , yellow with blue/ gray wings and associated with mangroves.
Children also enjoyed these activities. "That is definitely one of the best ways to empower our current and future environmental leaders” said Marco of the Neotrópica Foundation who attended at the Festival and Birdathon.
