Enviromental Education Workshops for Many Children

By Ebenezer Hondjinou | Project Leader

Last month we started the 2015 environmental education workshops in the Osa Peninsula, South Pacific of Costa Rica. Five public schools in rural areas and more than 150 children are benefiting from this project.

The Schools are: Purruja, Anna Maria Guardia, Alvaro Paris, Central San Jose and La Urena. The first workshop is called "Mangrove Ecosystem" and promotes the importance of protecting the mangroves.

"We learned the different types of mangrove tree that we have here in Osa," explained Rosa, a 10 year old girl from Escuela Ana María Guardia.

In these activities we teach students that coastal-marine ecosystems have five times more capacity to fix carbon than terrestrial forests and therefore their protection is very important in adapting to climate change.

With your help we can continue the second phase of this program with workshops on "Mangrove and Global Warming".
