With a great deal of obstacles and challenges being presented to the Center by the COVID-19 pandemic, schools had to be shut down to reduce the instances of possible exposure. Not knowing when things may return to 'normal,' if ever, many children were faced with a long period of time without having access to the educational services that the Makindu Children’s Program provides.
Thankfully, the severe spikes in COVID-19 cases have gown down in the Makindu area. This has allowed for more community events to take place in recent weeks. We are excited to announce that with some lifted COVID-19 restrictions and the gracious support of our donors in this project, over 290 girls were able to return to school this month!
These girls received new school uniforms, reading materials and aid in transport to and from school. Additionally, those in high school and vocational training had their school fees paid. With the help of the community, the girls improved their retention in school along with their academic performance!
Asante sana!
Thank you!
