Story of Dhanalakshmi (Cuddalore Isha Vidhya School)
Dhanalakshmi is a lively and bright girl of 6th grade
from a very rural background. Life posed challenges
to Dhanalakshmi, because both her parents are dwarf.
Nobody is willing to give work to them because of their
disability. Sometimes they work as farm laborers in other
people’s fields during the harvest season. They reside
with their extended family whose income is just INR 5000.
Dhanalakshmi understands her responsibility towards her
parents. It seemed amazing to us that even in such a
difficult situation, she has not forgotten to smile. Fortunately,
she got enrolled in our school and got a full education
scholarship. She likes our mid-day meals very much.
Dhanalakshmi says "I like the Dal rice. It is tasty!" It melted
our hearts to hear that the only food she eats at the school
is her favorite food.
Talking about her dream, she says, "I draw inspiration from
my teachers and aspire to be one in the future." It is indeed
a fact that food and the education are the primary motivators
that brings her to the school. We are really indebted to our
donors who are changing the lives of hundreds of rural children
like Dhanalakshmi.
Want to make a difference in a rural student’s
(like Dhanalakshmi’s) life? You can start a monthly recurring
donation for a small amount. The amount accumulated will be
used against noon-meal, transportation and/or sponsorship of
education! Here is the link to start:
