We have just got back from Nepal where we visited all the projects and met all the girls we are working with. It was an incredible experience to see the progress all the girls are making. The safe house is running really well with all the girls happy and provided with all the support they need. We went on a trip to a Cultural Village where we saw a lot of wildlife (including huge python and millions of colourful birds) and some amazing work done by local artists. We also took the girls to a play area in Janakpur where we all had a lot of fun. As it was extremely hot with temperatures reaching over 40 degrees, the girls were very happy with the ice cream after the play time!
We went to see the classes that we are delivering as part of the End to Marriage project as well. It was so encouraging to see all the girls attending and enjoying the classes. We started introducing various workshops focusing on exposing the girls to potential work opportunities in the future. During our visit we discussed with the girls all the points they enjoyed (and didn't enjoy) about the workshops and the feedback was great - they all requested more of those. We will continue these throughout the year and after that we will be preparing individual plans for the future for all girls. Through our classes and community training sessions we are able to reach a wider group of children and families and explain the issues surrounding child marriage and importance of education. We are already seeing results with girls continuing their studies rather than getting married early.
We also went to visit the ladies who are a part of our EmpowerHER Ventures project - they did a great job making 140 karate uniforms, they are also making other clothes and in the next month or so, they should be able to fully make school uniforms. Soon, they should be able to make stable income.
Thank you so much for all the support!
