Friendship will be conducting a short campaign to celebrate International Women's Day, for the women of remote, rural Bangladesh. As part of the campaign, which includes an award for the outstanding contributions of a selection of women towards the benefit of their own communities, this year we are also conducting a short crowd-funding campaign where you contribute to empower them to transform lives and accelerate action.
The remote river-islands and coastal mangrove forest areas of Bangladesh are some of the most climate-affected, isolated and marginalised areas there are. Removed from access and infrastructure of any kind, these communities can barely survive. What's worse, women get the brunt of the effects, relegated to domestic roles, deprived of agency and self-determination. They need a platform to start from, to realise, actuate and achieve their true and full potential.
Friendship empowers women from the most marginalised areas in Bangladesh to not just have their own wherewithal, but actively contribute to their own communities. They are selected as community medic-aides, paralegals, teachers, facilitators, entrepreneurs and guardians. They are given the education, tools and know-how to take reigns over their own lives, and break free from their circumstances. With your help, they can achieve what was considered impossible.
Through Friendship's myriad of initiatives, women from remote, rural communities in Bangladesh are given dignity, opportunity and hope. These women, who for generations were disregarded are not productive, contributing members of their communities, not just being able to provide for themselves, but also their families and taking an active role in developing their communities. They are role-models, moulding future generations of women to achieve their dreams regardless of circumstances.
