Empower Girls With Menstrual Hygiene Kits

Project Report | Dec 29, 2025
Restoring Dignity and Health to Displaced Girls

By PASCAL NIYONZIMA | CORDINATOR

1. Project Context and Justification

In the displacement camps of Goma, North Kivu, girls and women live in extremely difficult conditions, worsened by ongoing armed conflicts. One of the most overlooked needs is access to safe and dignified menstrual hygiene.

Every month, thousands of girls and women are forced to manage their menstruation without proper products, clean water, or sufficient knowledge. This exposes them to high risks of infection, social stigma, loss of self-esteem, and school dropouts among adolescents.

To address this critical need, the project “Empower Girls With Menstrual Hygiene Kits” was created to provide essential support to vulnerable women in a crisis context.

2. Project Objective

The main goal is to improve the health, dignity, and well-being of 1,000 displaced girls and women in Goma by providing the necessary materials and knowledge to manage menstrual hygiene safely.

3. Beneficiaries

  • 1,000 displaced girls and women, mainly adolescents and young mothers
  • Residents of Goma displacement camps
  • Vulnerable individuals with limited access to basic menstrual care

4. Planned Activities

The project adopts a practical and empowering approach:

  • Distribution of 1,000 menstrual hygiene kits containing:
    • Reusable, eco-friendly pads
    • Antibacterial medical soap
    • Intimate wipes
    • Disposal bags
  • Training sessions on:
    • Menstrual health and hygiene
    • Infection prevention
    • Proper use and maintenance of reusable pads
    • Managing menstruation in crisis contexts
  • Identification and training of peer educators to ensure knowledge continues spreading within the camps.

5. Project Status

  • Total budget: $10,000 USD
  • Funds raised so far: $51 USD, thanks to collaboration with GlobalGiving
  • Currently in the phase of identifying trainers and beneficiaries
  • Project activities are planned to start in November 2025

With the visibility, credibility, and support provided by GlobalGiving, we are confident in our ability to reach the funding goal and implement this high-impact project.

6. Expected Results and Impact

In the short and medium term, the project will:

  • Reduce menstrual-related infections
  • Improve school attendance for adolescent girls
  • Strengthen confidence, dignity, and autonomy of beneficiaries
  • Break taboos around menstruation in the camps
  • Create a multiplier effect through trained peer educators

This project goes beyond distributing kits: it restores voice, dignity, and hope to women who have been overlooked for too long.

7. Budget (Overview)

The overall budget mainly covers:

  • Purchase of menstrual hygiene kits
  • Training and awareness activities
  • Logistics for distribution
  • Community follow-up and support

The budget is designed to be realistic, responsible, and directly impactful for the beneficiaries.

8. Call to Donors

Today, your support can change a life.

Every donation, no matter the amount, helps a girl stay in school, a woman protect her health, and a community break the cycle of silence and suffering.

We sincerely appeal to all donors, partners, and people of goodwill:
Join us in this fight for menstrual dignity.
Invest in a simple, concrete, and deeply human project.

9. Acknowledgements

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has already contributed to this project, as well as to GlobalGiving, whose support and platform make this initiative possible.

Every contribution matters.
Every gesture brings these women closer to a dignified life.

Together, we will reach the goal. Together, we will make a difference.
