TEEN MENTORSHIP

By Joy Christabell | Project Coordinator

Through our season for girls initiative, now Linda Binti, we have been naturing and mentoring teen girls from vulnerable backgrounds over the years. Our main theme has been 'Empowering future leaders'. Our mentorship sessions always go hand in hand with the distribution of mentrual hygiene products. This include sanitary towels, panties and soap. Many of the girls we mentor find it hard to afford this basic things.

The mentorship events feature full days of girl talks and games where we teach the girls in a fun manner. It is also a safe space for the teen girls to share on the challenges they are currently facing and seek assistance. We ensure the girls prioritize education and their future, while guiding them through the challenges they face. Through this forums we have met girls who have dropped out of school either for lack of fees or pregnancy, and assisted them to resume school through the assistance of our partners.

Our most recent mentoship program was heald on the International Menstrual Hygiene Awareness day. Menstruation hygine is one of the key topics we discuss about when talking with the girls. This time we shared a meal with them and even cut a cake to comemorate the day.

More teen girls are having faith in us and the forums we hold, allowing them to be bold enough to shae with us the problems we face. We still encounter teen mums who we take into our safe house shelter until they give birth, after which we assist them to resume school as they take care of their children.

We beleive in naturing the female leaders of tomorrow.
