At the beginning of the year, we were lucky to partner Lioons Club Denmark to launch a vocational training program, that offers caregiving training to vulnerable women and girls in the community. Over the years, we have been empowering women and girls from vulnerable communitities in Kenya with hand skill training, but this particular program offers a unique innovative and diverse opportunity for job creation and self sustainability.
The program is curated to last a period of about 3 weeks with a maximum of 100 students at a time. The highest number of our recruits has been teen mums, which was rather alarming. They are however still determined to attain their dreams through education, as much as their hard life of been teen mums in porverty still tortures their hopes.
The program is also part of our exit strategies for the many vulnerable teen mums, girls and women housed in our safe house, to equip them with livelihood skills for when they rejoin the community. The women are attached to jobs once done with the program. We are also making plans to monitor a microfinance sacco for them to furthure grow themselves.
We are currently planning a teen mentorship program to take place in about 2 weeks time. The program is meant to; teach proper behavioral skills, discuss mental health, develop self awareness, self worth, self esteem, and discuss relatiomships and communication.
