PROJECT REPORT FOR EMPOWER EMPLOYMENT & LIVELIHOOD FOR NIGERIAN YOUTH

By Chiamaka Okoye | Member Services Director

Overview

The Empower and Employ Program is a youth-focused initiative designed to support marginalized young people in Southeastern Nigeria through structured learning in personal development, career readiness, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy. With the help of mentorship and community support, the program has equipped youth with critical life and employability skills. As we conclude this phase of the program, we reflect on the milestones achieved and the strong foundation it has laid for future interventions.

Achievements this Quarter

1. Empower and Employ Program Activities

  • This quarter marked the final cycle of core activities before the program enters a temporary closure. Highlights include:
  • Delivery of hands-on workshops focused on career rebranding, digital skills, and entrepreneurship
  • Provision of career coaching, mock interviews, and job referral support for participants.
  • Support for five participants to develop and refine their micro-business ideas with continued mentorship.
  • Continued engagement of previous beneficiaries who served as peer mentors and facilitators during sessions.

These activities emphasized real-world application and provided the participants with tools for both personal and professional advancement.

2. Mighty Minds Africa 2030 Survey Nigeria

To gain deeper insight into the evolving needs of our youth community, we launched the Technology Needs & Preferences Survey.

  • The survey collected responses from youth across various locations in Nigeria.
  • Results highlighted key priority areas, including technical/vocational training, digital upskilling, entrepreneurship, and a stronger emphasis on mentorship.
  • These findings are currently informing the strategy and planning for our next youth-focused program and digital platform. The data collected will ensure that the voices of youth remain central in all program decisions moving forward.

Transition Notice

As of the end of this quarter, the Empower and Employ Program is closing temporarily as our organization transitions into the development of a new initiative the Mighty X Tech 4 Impact Challenge.

This transition is a strategic pause that allows our team to:

  • Finalize and close all existing activities under the Empower and Employ Program.
  • Review program impact, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Consult stakeholders and youth participants to shape the next phase.
  • Focus efforts on building the digital platform and operational framework that will support the launch of the Mighty X Tech 4 Impact Challenge. While Empower and Employ is temporarily on hold, its mission and spirit continue in the next chapter of our work.

Note from the Team

This report marks the close of the current cycle of the Empower and Employ Program. As the program enters a temporary pause, we express deep gratitude to all the partners, supporters, mentors, and youth who have made this journey impactful. We are excited to carry forward the momentum into our upcoming project the Mighty X Tech 4 Impact Challenge which builds on the vision of innovation, empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods for youth. Stay connected with us for updates on the new challenge and future opportunities to collaborate.
