The project will support 1800 girls at risk of or withdrawn child marriage and teen mothers with school and sanitary materials to continue primary and secondary education while providing ECD services for 3000 children of teen mothers in Malawi. Also providing the girls with continued psychosocial support, counselling and opportunity for empowerment and economic strengthening. Your donation goes extra mile in helping vulnerable girls and children to thrive.
Malawi continues to slide on the poverty ladder especially in the rural areas. Child marriages and teenage pregnancies continue to rise with girls and boys being denied access to education. Schools and early childhood development centres lack basic facilities including poor sanitation and failure to meet girls SRHR needs. Few girls persevere to primary and secondary school but they lack basic skills and are faced with limited opportunity to attain employment or pursue higher education.
Education is key for girls and boys in the rural communities to move out of poverty. YONECO volunteers works to create a future for 1800 teenage girls and 3000 children in need of ECD services, in 15 rural schools;providing quality counselling and PSS, return-to-school campaign, learning materials, sporting events and meals for children in ECD. YONECO will support provision of sanitation facilities;develop girls skills for making sanitary pads and engaging in small scale business for livelihood.
(a) Low levels of teenage pregnancies and child marriages leading to reduced school dropout rate among girls and boys; (b) Educated and empowered girls will be more resilient, self reliant and have ability to protect their own children and improved mental health services for the girls; (c) More children will have early learning experiences.
