"Soaring Beyond for Children in Out-of-Home Care" (Project SOAR) is dedicated to transforming the lives of 48 out-of-home care (OOHC) children at Agape Children's Home and Mustard Seed Youth Home. These children have endured family dysfunction, abandonment, and abuse. Our initiative provides a safe, nurturing environment, essential life skills, educational support, and mental health services to help them heal, grow, and achieve their full potential.
The children at Agape and Mustard Seed Youth Homes face significant adversities, including family breakdowns, neglect, and abuse, resulting in trauma, low self-esteem, and lack of life skills. Over 4,500 children in Taiwan require out-of-home care annually, with nearly 1,000 having developmental delays or disabilities. These children often end up in unsuitable adult facilities due to inadequate resources, risking continued instability and limited opportunities without proper intervention.
Our holistic program addresses the multifaceted needs of these vulnerable children by offering secure housing, academic support, and life skills training. We provide individualized mental health counseling, character development courses, and enriching extracurricular activities. This comprehensive support system is designed to help each child overcome their past traumas, build self-confidence, and develop the competencies needed for independent living and societal contribution.
Through sustained support and empowerment, project SOAR aims to break the cycle of trauma and instability. By fostering resilience, independence, and self-worth, we prepare these children to become productive, contributing members of society. The long-term impact extends beyond the individual, promoting stronger, more cohesive communities as these children grow into capable and compassionate adults.
