Beneficiary Case Report

Afrin K.

Age

12 years

Primary disability

Intellectual disability

Residence

Garpurushottompur village, approximately 3 km from the Centre

Background and Identification

Afrin was identified by the Centre's field officer during a routine community visit when she was 2 1/2 years old. At that time, she remained in a lying position at all times. Following identification, she was enrolled in the rehabilitation programme.

Interventions Provided

Afrin received therapeutic intervention, life skills development training, and special education. Her progress was gradual but steady over a sustained period of intervention.

Progress and Functional Outcomes

Afrin has started walking independently and has begun speaking a few words. She can identify members of her family and recognize common vegetables, fruits, and animals. She is also able to eat and drink independently.

Current Status and Challenges

Afrin's mother recently gave birth to another baby girl. This has made it difficult for the family to bring Afrin to the Centre for regular sessions, and attendance has become less frequent.

Follow-up and Family Support Plan

The Centre counselled Afrin's parents to attend at least one follow-up session and to continue rehabilitation activities at home in the interim. The field officer also conducts home visits as needed to monitor Afrin's progress and support the family.
