Health education and professional training are the backbones of healthy communities. NWB's unique expertise on plants as medicine, nutrition, exercise, acupuncture and stress relief are vital but need boots on the ground among our communities in Haiti, Mexico and Arizona via Community Health Workers and training professionals in advanced techniques. We have the knowledge and the model, but now we need to hire 3 CHWs and train 12 more doctors, nurses, midwives and physical therapists!
Not only do resource-poor communities lack access to already overburdened medical services, they also lack access to education and skills to take care of their own health and prevent the need for expensive or palliative care. Underserved people in Haiti, Mexico and Arizona suffer from preventable diseases (such as childhood diarrhea, malnutrition, diabetes, and depression) from difficult lives and limited finances.
Our approach is 2-pronged: touch community members by employing them to teach each other, and train health professionals to enhance their services. People want to learn to care for themselves and others, and supporting the power of the body to heal with the tools of natural medicine empowers teacher and student to build healthier communities!
Giving THOUSANDS of people tools to live healthier lives will create an economic ripple effect as they will be able to work and reduce their reliance on relatively expensive health care systems. Simply put, health is wealth.
