Goat Farming Summary: 1) Improve the standard of living for marginalized people in rural regions located in Nepal. 2) Create entrepreneurial opportunities for these marginalized people through goat breeding and farming. 3) Provide employment opportunities technical and veterinarian support training for qualified candidates in these communities. 4) Beneficial to the soil because of the manure generated from the goats.
The number one problem in the rural regions of Nepal is poverty. The main causes of poverty in these regions is due to the following factors: (1) government corruption and instability, (2) lack of industry, (3) poor health care, (4) earthquakes and natural disasters, (5) lack of employment opportunities, (6) geographical challenges, (7) lasting effects of civil war from 1996 to 2006, (8) COVID 19. All of these items have combined to make economic development a true challenge for the people.
This project will address the issue of poverty by encouraging one of the fastest developing practices in Nepal, goat farming. Native goat breeds have advantages of adaptability to local conditions, including resistance to certain diseases, parasites and the ability to survive with limited nutrition. These factors have made goats a very important for the food security of the country. This food security comes in the form of meat, milk, cheese, yogurt, dietary fiber, and their manure enhances soil.
The goat farming industry is a very lucrative business in Nepal. With the threat of weather conditions that make other forms of labor difficult, goats require much less maintenance and can both be used for the sales of the products that come from them, or be a healthy dietary choice for families that are in rural areas. Environmentally speaking, the long-term impact of goat farming aids the creation of manure that enriches the soil, which aids with agricultural development.
