“Several years ago I worked in a public school as a support teacher, but when I went to work at a private school I wanted to continue helping children who really needed it and did not have the resources to pay for those extra supports, so for a year, I continued working with two children from that school. I went to their house to help them with their homework.
Some months later, I heard about Lifting Hands Foundation. I live in Bello Horizonte of Escazú and I had been looking for a place where I could offer my services voluntarily, as I did with the other boys. Finally a friend mentioned me about the foundation, and He contacted me with Mariola, the Executive Director.
My experience in Lifting Hands has been very nice. Since I am a special education teacher I work with few children. I currently have two children: one of them started a month ago, the other boy has been working with him for almost two years, and I have seen how he has acquired new learnings. This is what I like most about my work with them, to see the progress they have with time.
I work especially reinforcing the areas of mathematics and Spanish (mainly reading and writing) always trying to use dynamic activities. The relationship with them has been changing, mainly with the boy who has worked the longest. At the beginning he was more restless, he did not like to work much, but now he enjoys classes, he already knows the dynamics.
As I mentioned before, it has been a beautiful experience, and very enriching on a professional and personal level ”.
