Education is a pillar for changing a life, and Olinda is working along with Lifting Hands towards having the best opportunities. We bring help with after school work to children, spaces where they can develop a variety of life skills and support with materials, uniforms, and food.
In Costa Rica, the dissertation is a big problem. Children like Olinda encounter at home school work very hard to complete when their parents didn't complete their education, so they are unable to help. Also, the underprivileged population competes with schools' mandatory uniforms and materials, that have relatively high costs for these families.
Lifting Hands provides a safe space for children like Olinda to complete the after school work along with mentors who can guide them, a variety of life skills are developed on workshops given by volunteers. As additionals, there are counseling services provided along with a food dinner operated by locals.
The goal is to empower children like Olinda through education and a set of life skills. Lifting Hands is changing nearly 4000 lives in the Bajo de Los Anonos community of San Jose, Costa Rica. Literacy measurements and national test scores will improve. More children will have a chance to study and both students and teachers will be computer literate and gain 21st Century skills for the marketplace.
