To deliver the best possible learning potential for conflict-affected vulnerable children, Educational Empowerment will empower the Dawei township with utilization of its own local human resources (patrons and community educators) to manage and maintain 2 schools during the ongoing conflict in Myanmar. This project will provide educational resources (financial and technical) needed to establish 2 community schools serving 200 students in Dawei township of southern Myanmar.
The education system in Myanmar has faced severe challenges since the 2021 military coup. Many schools are closed due to ongoing violence and instability. There have been numerous attacks on schools and there is a critical shortage of teachers and financial resources, leading to increased corruption and higher tuition fees. As a result, schools are no longer able to operate, creating prolonged nationwide lack of education. Children have nowhere to learn amidst the conflicts and civil war.
Safe and continuous learning is every child's right. This project will provide basic educational resources needed to establish and maintain 2 community schools for 1 academic year for 200 students in Dawei township of southern Myanmar. Specifically, the project will provide teaching aids /supplies for 10 months; 4 technical training workshops for community educators; 2 management workshops for community leaders; monthly honorarium for 20 community educators.
20 community educators will develop skills and confidence to effectively provide educational services for youth, even during conflict. 200 students will receive quality education, enhancing their future productivity and minimizing their future risk of violence and exploitation. The Dawei community will develop skills and confidence to manage and maintain operations during conflict.
