Bon fet manman! (Happy Haitian Mother's Day)

Meet some of St. Vincent's "mothers"

In Haiti, Mother’s Day—Fête des Mères—is a deeply cherished celebration of love, gratitude, and family. Observed on the last Sunday of May, it is a day when mothers are honored by loved ones both near and far. One beautiful Haitian tradition is the wearing of a red flower, symbolizing love, respect, and appreciation.

At St. Vincent’s Center for Children with Disabilities, this day is filled with a special kind of joy. The adult residents organize a party celebrating all of St. Vincent’s mother figures: the caregivers, protectors, cooks, and cleaners. For many residents, these women are the only mothers they have ever known. Children sing and present dances and each female staff member receives a small gift, a reminder of how much they are appreciated.

Friends of St. Vincent’s has been blessed to witness these celebrations firsthand—moments overflowing with affection and gratitude from the residents, both young and old. The memories created during these celebrations stay with them (and us!) forever.

We invite you to help continue the love and care shared at St. Vincent’s every day, not just on Mother’s Day. Your gift to Friends of St. Vincent’s helps support daily programming, compassionate care, and annual celebrations  that bring joy, dignity, and connection to so many lives.

Every donation helps make these moments possible.

Thank you for helping the St. Vincent’s family feel seen, celebrated, and loved.
