Teenage Mothers’ Workshop on Hygiene
Date: August 30th 2025
Venue: Kangai primary school.
Target Group:Teenage Mothers

The purpose of this program was to educate, empower, and equip young mothers with essential knowledge and skills on personal hygiene, child hygiene, menstrual hygiene, and environmental cleanliness. Hygiene is a key pillar in improving health outcomes, boosting self-esteem, and restoring dignity among vulnerable young mothers.

Objectives
Was to raise awareness on the importance of personal and child hygiene.
• To promote menstrual hygiene management for teenage mothers.
• To equip participants with practical skills in maintaining home and environmental cleanliness.
• To build confidence and restore dignity among teenage mothers.
• To empower young mothers to become ambassadors of hygiene within their communities.

Participants
A total of 130 teenage mothers attended the workshop. They represented diverse backgrounds and circumstances, all facing unique challenges of early motherhood. The large turnout demonstrated the pressing need for support, empowerment, and awareness in this area.

Workshop Activities
Educational Sessions: Experts facilitated discussions on hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, and maternal health.
• Demonstrations: Practical demonstrations on handwashing techniques, safe diaper disposal, and menstrual hygiene practices.
• Group Work & Discussions: Participants shared personal experiences and exchanged coping strategies.
• Distribution of Hygiene Kits: Each participant received a hygiene kit containing soap, sanitary towels, diapers, and disinfectants.
• Motivational Talk: Encouragement on resilience, self-care, and hope for the future.
5. Outcomes
• Increased knowledge on personal, child, and environmental hygiene among 130 teenage mothers.
• Improved confidence in menstrual hygiene management.
• Distribution of essential hygiene supplies to support daily needs.
• Creation of a supportive peer-to-peer learning environment.
• Strengthened the role of teenage mothers as change agents in their families and communities.

Challenges
There were Limited resources compared to the overwhelming needs.
• Some participants faced stigma from community members.
• Need for continuous follow-up and psychosocial support.

Recommendations
• Sustain similar workshops regularly to reinforce knowledge.
• Establish community hygiene clubs led by teenage mothers.
• Partner with health institutions for ongoing mentorship.
• Mobilize more resources for hygiene kits and educational materials.

Conclusion
The hygiene workshop was a success, reaching 130 teenage mothers in one out of the 10 locations with empowerment, education, and hope. By equipping them with essential hygiene knowledge and practical tools, the program not only improved health practices but also restored dignity and confidence. This initiative stands as a powerful step in rebuilding the lives of young mothers and creating healthier, safer communities.
