Monthly Progress Report - Empowering Unprivileged Children
Month: May 2026 | Makindye, Kampala

1. INTRODUCTION
Hope for Kids serves 360+ unprivileged children aged 6-14 from low-income fishing families. This month we focused on improving literacy and keeping girls in school.

2. WHAT WE DID
- Literacy classes: 198 children attended 4x/week (Mon-Thu)
- Girls Dignity Club: 115 girls received sanitary pads, counselling, and used private changing space
- Youth Educators: 6 educators led all sessions, 2 refresher trainings done
- Parent Engagement: 32 parents attended meeting, 18 volunteered for cleaning and supervision
- Home visits: 14 at-risk children visited who had missed 1 week

3. RESULTS
- Reading assessment: 62 children moved up 1 reading level (from 38% to 55% reading at grade level)
- Girls attendance: Reduced missing days from average 4.2 to 1.5 days per month
- Dropout: 0 girls dropped out this term (compared to 3 last term same time)
- Safe space: Center open 22 days, no flooding despite rains

4. STORY OF CHANGE
Aisha, 11, P5: Before I missed school every month because I had no pads and I was shy. Now I have pads from Hope Center and my teacher trained me. I came every day this month and I read a whole book alone.

5. CHALLENGES
- Limited books - 3 children sharing 1 book
- Small space - only 40 children per shift, others wait outside
- Funds - monthly need UGX 2.5M, we have 0.8M

6. NEXT MONTH PLAN
- Enroll 50 more children for reading
- Reach 130 girls with pads
- Repair roof before heavy rains
- Fundraise for 100 books
