*Theme: Expanding Opportunity for Children at Gaba Hope for Kids*
1. Introduction
At Gaba Hope for Kids, we work with orphaned and vulnerable children aged 10-16 in rural villages. The world is vast, with opportunities in education, skills, health, and community leadership that many of our children have never seen up close. Our role is to help them believe that they are capable of reaching those opportunities.
This report explains how we connect that belief to practical action through our programs.
2. Why This Theme Matters
Many children in our communities grow up with limited exposure beyond their village. Without mentors, resources, and safe spaces, the gap between “what is possible” and “what I can do” feels wide.
By combining education support, life skills, mentorship, and exposure activities, we help children see that their future is not fixed by their circumstances. Capability grows when children have knowledge, confidence, and someone who expects more of them.
3. What We Are Doing
*Education Empowerment*
- School fee and materials support for 230 children this term.
- Homework clubs and peer learning sessions run by trained youth facilitators
*Life Skills and Mentorship*
- Monthly workshops on communication, budgeting, problem-solving, and health
- One-on-one mentorship to set personal goals and track progress
*Exposure and Community Linkage*
- Exposure visits to local institutions, markets, and training centers
- Community events where children present projects and share what they’ve learned
*Wellbeing and Protection*
- Safe group sessions to address trauma and build confidence
- Partnerships with caregivers and leaders to keep children in school
4. Results So Far
- 220+ children actively participating in weekly programs across 3 villages
- Improved school attendance among supported children
- Increased participation of girls, from 25% to 42% in 6 months
- Positive feedback from caregivers on behavior, confidence, and goal-setting at home
5. Challenges
- Limited learning materials and transport for exposure visits
- Need for more trained facilitators in trauma-informed mentoring
- Irregular funding makes long-term planning difficult
- Some villages lack safe spaces for group activities
6. Next Steps and Support Needed
To expand our reach from 230 to 500 children, we plan to:
1. *Strengthen Learning Support*: Provide materials and transport for exposure visits.
2. *Train Facilitators*: Run a 2-day workshop on mentoring, safeguarding, and basic counseling.
3. *Create Safe Spaces*: Work with communities to secure 2 safe meeting areas for sessions
4. *Monitor Progress*: Track school attendance, skills gained, and wellbeing indicators quarterly
7. Conclusion
The world is vast, but capability starts close to home. At Gaba Hope for Kids, we give children the tools, mentorship, and confidence to take the first steps toward that wider world. With the right support, they move from surviving to leading.
*Call to Action*
We invite partners and donors to support our “Capable Futures” program. Your contribution helps a child see what is possible and gives them the skills to pursue it.
