GABS supports vulnerable children and youth in Botswana through academic support, psychosocial care, life-skills development, mentorship, recreation, and youth empowerment. The project will help children stay engaged in education, build confidence, develop practical skills, and create pathways toward employment and self-reliance.
Many children and young people in Botswana face barriers that limit their opportunities and future prospects. GABS identifies 60% of children under 18 as living in multidimensional poverty, while youth unemployment stands at 28.9% and 4 in 10 young people are not in education, employment, or training. Vulnerable children may also lack stable educational, emotional, and developmental support. These challenges can affect school performance, confidence, decision-making and skills development.
GABS will provide remedial and academic support, homework assistance, psychosocial support, mentorship, moral and life-skills education, leadership activities, recreation, and skills-building opportunities. For older youth, the project will support employability through work-readiness, entrepreneurship, people skills, job-shadowing, and links with potential employers or training partners. GABS will also work with other partners to expand learning and mentorship opportunities.
The project will help children and youth strengthen confidence, academic engagement, life skills, resilience, and decision-making. Young people will gain practical skills and exposure that can support employment, entrepreneurship, and greater self-reliance. Over time, stronger educational and mentorship support can help vulnerable young people build healthier relationships, make informed choices, pursue opportunities, and contribute positively to their families and communities.
