The project will provide hands-on STEM education, digital literacy, and mentorship to 500 orphaned and vulnerable children in rural Malava, Kenya. Through a mobile STEM laboratory and a community STEM Resource Centre, learners will access practical science experiments, coding, digital learning, and mentorship opportunities that are currently unavailable in many public schools. The project will especially support girls, children with disabilities, and learners from low-income households.
Many rural public schools in Malava, Kenya lack science laboratories, digital learning tools, internet access, and enough STEM teachers. Orphaned and vulnerable children are disproportionately affected because they cannot afford private tutoring or access to practical learning opportunities. As Kenya shifts toward a STEM-focused education curriculum, thousands of rural learners risk being left behind without the skills, confidence, and exposure needed to pursue future careers STEM.
Next-Gen Scholars Initiatives will establish a community STEM Resource Centre and operate a Mobile STEM Laboratory that travels to underserved schools across Malava. The project will provide practical science experiments, coding lessons, digital literacy training, mentorship camps, and life-skills coaching for 500 vulnerable learners. Learners will participate in holiday STEM camps and school outreach sessions led by trained mentors and educators using inclusive and hands-on learning approaches.
This project will create long-term educational opportunities for 500+ vulnerable children by increasing access to practical STEM education and digital skills in rural Malava. Learners will improve academic performance, confidence, and career readiness while schools gain access to shared STEM learning resources. The project will also build a sustainable community STEM hub that continues serving children through subsidized digital services, and school outreach programs after funding period ends.
