Dear Donors and Friends,
As a new year begins, the AgeWatch Africa team hopes that you have all crossed over to 2024 with renewed spirit and vigor. As the year takes off to a busy start I wish to thank everyone of you for your kind generosity and the continued support and lessons learned through 2023 and the many opportunities, triumphs, and gifts that we received from you.
Around the world, many countries experienced a major decline in new COVID-19 infections by close of 2022 as many governments continued with vaccination campaigns against the virus. We launched our vaccination campaign program for older people from September 2021, and through your generous support (grants and donations), this campaign extended into 2022 as Omicron continued to surge and new variants were identified. Because of your invaluable support, our program successfully vaccinated seniors throughout Kisumu West Sub-county, benefiting up to 1,002 older people with their guardians. Without you, we would not be able to provide these vaccine clinics within the community to care for this vulnerable group that could otherwise not access other distant vaccination centers.
Through your generous support, we also refurbished our Kisumu Center facility that includes an eight-bed residential care center that also hosted our regular group daycare sessions and caregiver training programs through 2023. From Q4’2022 the government largely became responsible for vaccination efforts as we embarked on post COVID-19 service delivery to our clients.
Without a doubt, these past milestones will inspire our activities in the coming months. Our purpose remains constant - ensuring a healthy ageing for all older people, even as we must change the methods by which we pursue it.
In that spirit, the Board of Directors, Advisory Board, our incredible staff /volunteers, the elderly clients that we are humbled to serve, and I - together join in thanking you for your most generous donations, ongoing cooperation, incredible support, and hard work!
With that I would like to wish you all the very best for 2024.
With much gratitude,
Richard Waindi
