Dear Donor and Friends,
As a new year begins, we are grateful for the lessons learned through 2021 and the many opportunities, triumphs, and gifts that we received this past year. Every year, your kindness never ceases to surprise me and through your continued financial support, we were able to begin a rural vaccination program against COVID-19.
On September 22, our vaccination program launched with the support of the local health ministry. We vaccinated a total of 16 older adults at our first clinic. We continued our efforts with five more vaccine clinics. On October 1, we celebrated the International Day of the Older Person (IDOP) with 44 elders vaccinated -- the oldest being 81 years old! Our celebration included guests from the local government, representatives from HelpAge International, the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the local mainstream media houses. Together with our local community, our elderly guests danced to "nyatiti" tunes of local traditional music. Close to 200 people attended and even those who were initially hesitant to receive their jab eventually took their place in line and received a vaccine.
Without you, we would not be able to care for the elderly of Kenya and provide these vaccine clinics. As Omicron continues to surge and new variants are identified, our COVID vaccination efforts remain a high priority for our team in 2022.
On behalf of all of us at AgeWatch Africa – our incredible volunteers, Board of Directors, Advisory Board, and the elderly clients that we are humbled to serve -- thank you for your generous donations and your incredible support this past year. We are confident of your continued kind and generous support in 2022.
With much gratitude,
Richard Waindi, Founder & CEO
