Thanks so much for your support of Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts through Global Giving!
We’ve had a wonderfully busy and exciting Spring. Our 1st Annual JA Titan Challenge event was held on March 20th at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. The day-long business strategy competition for high school students, designed to unleash creativity, test leadership, and demonstrate the competitive nature of our free enterprise system, was a resounding success!
Nearly 150 high school students from 13 schools throughout Southern Massachusetts formed teams of three and were matched with community business leaders to compete against each other for scholarships. Participants practiced the simulation and learned key business concepts in advance of the challenge during class time and at home. During the competition, students made decisions regarding price production, marketing, capital investments, research and development and charitable/community giving. The impact of the decisions led to the success or failure of their virtual company.
Thanks to our friends at the UMass Dartmouth Charlton College of Business, Titan Challenge participants had the opportunity to tour a college campus, learn more about college business programs, and receive a dynamic introduction to the world of business – all in addition to learning real-world skills. What’s more, the top three performing teams took home college scholarships!

We couldn’t agree more! Next year, our goal is to increase the participant number to 200 students from at least 15 local high schools.
Every day, with help from supporters like you, we are providing our future leaders with valuable life skills that will help them understand the importance of an education and make smart decisions throughout life.
