It was important to allow children of Grade 1 (first year of primary school) to discover the notion of rights and responsibilities first, in order to attain one of our final objective which is to bring awareness on this notion. We observed that the children gradually became more familiar with responsibilities. These observations are supported by testimonies like a pupil in Grade 3 in ZEP (Priority Zone) Government School saying "responsibilities means you must behave well in class, respect others, respect the teacher and not hit our friends but play with them peacefully".
According to the mentionned testimony, the children were able to express the responsibilities of the class in their own words, which means that they grasped the notion of responsibilities. One of the teachers from Grade 4 of the same school pointed out a "gradual change of children in relation to class regulation".
Grade 2 pupils were able to deepen their reflection on the importance of responsibilities. The children were able to openly express the impact when they could not respect the responsibilities of the class and the changes that occur in the class when they do respect the responsibilities. For example, a pupil of Grade 6 said "do not speak at the same time because when our friend speak we will not understand".
