Empower 19 youths living on the streets in Mexico

Even though we know from experience that reversing the impact of violence is an extremely difficult task, Fundación Junto con los Niños de Puebla (JUCONI) believes that investing in healing the aftermath of violence is a fundamental issue in order to guarantee the successful reintegration into society of children and youth.

The JUCONI Youth House Program in particular -a residential home for young men (ages 14-18 typically) who have lived on the street and cannot return home- provides residents with extensive support and training to ensure that they can live independent lives free of violence. The Youth House provides these young men with a sense of physical, moral and social security where they can achieve emotional stability, maintain confident communications and focus on preparing for work in a way that allows them to cope with the challenges in life. It is worth mentioning that JUCONI’s services are unique for their long-term success rates helping marginalized youths to break cycles of violence and reintegrate into their homes and into society.

During the last few months, some of the activities that were carried out by the Youth House Program, in addition to the therapeutic intervention and the personalized vocational guidance, were as follows:

Educational and employment activities:

• Developing skills for the workplace Workshops (ongoing)
• Rights and responsibilities of the employee Workshop
• Business visit to BIMBO factory (Mexico´s largest bakery company)
• Business visit to the factory and offices of the “El Sol de Puebla” newspaper
• Visit to the Technological University of Puebla
• Glassmaking Workshop
• English program

Cultural and recreational activities:

• Dance therapy
• Choreographic dance
• Chocolate Workshop
• Visit to the Railway Museum
• Visit to the Alfeñique Museum
• Youth Day 

All these activities were focused on the integral development of the Youth House residents so that they could continue acquiring emotional, social, cognitive and physical skills and tools. Educational and employment activities have been specially designed to help the young men visualize a future in which they can develop their full potential in life.

Thanks to the participation and support from donors like you, JUCONI has raised $20,784 USD through the Global Giving initiative, which will directly impact on our ability to establish a permanent Youth House in order to guarantee the successful reintegration into society of these 19 young men. It will also allow us to maintain high-quality standards both in the services provided by the JUCONI Program and in the Youth House´s surrounding infrastructure and environment.

Even though we are still $9,716 USD short of our goal, we strongly believe that the JUCONI Youth House Program’s methodology and history of success (facilitating youths’ full reintegration into society in 8 out of every 10 cases) will continue encouraging donors like you to keep supporting our initiative and spread the word so our donor network can increase day by day.
