This year, Street Business School will provide entrepreneurship training for 1,200 women living in conditions of poverty in rural communities in Western and Northern Uganda. Our unique program teaches real business skills like bookkeeping, marketing, and strategy, and boosts confidence for people of any education level, helping them start their own micro businesses and rise out of poverty. Your support will help unlock women's potential to change their families' futures!
Street Business School is fighting a broken global economic system that is failing the world's 680 million lowest income earners, the majority of whom are women and girls in the Global South. One in ten women around the world live in extreme poverty, and working age women are almost 30% less likely to be in the labor force than men (UN Women, 2024).
We believe the key to creating a path out of poverty is to invest directly in women by giving them the skills and confidence to support themselves, overcoming discrimination and exclusion from the formal sector. Our training program is uniquely tailored to provide equitable opportunity and advance women experiencing extreme poverty. The highly interactive, experiential curriculum acknowledges the numerous and interconnected barriers women face to improving their financial situation.
Data shows that graduates of the SBS training increase business ownership (80% of graduates operate at least one business at the one-year mark) and more than double their income (rising above the $2.15/day international extreme poverty line). SBS trained entrepreneurs reinvest revenue in their families; especially their dependent children, who gain greater access to nutrition, education, hygiene, health services, and other supports.
