Summary

In Bandung, Indonesia, young people with disabilities are locked out of formal jobs. So we help them build their own income instead. In our first group, all 10 founders made a first sale and served 170 paying customers to date. Your gift helps 100 more young disabled founders launch and grow real businesses, through accessible one-on-one coaching, access to a digital learning platform, and seed capital released each time they hit a milestone.

Challenge

In Indonesia, only 18.7% of people with disabilities are employed - just 13.5% of disabled women (ILO, 2023). In Bandung, West Java, that means young disabled adults wait for jobs that never come. Employers overlook them, training programs are not built for how they learn or communicate, and no one funds a first attempt at self-employment. All 10 founders in our first group came from low-income households, and most had never earned income. This project will reach 100 more young founders.

Solution

Solve Business Lab gives each founder 12 weeks of one-on-one coaching in Bandung, adapted to how they communicate: sign language interpretation, large-text and read-aloud tools, simple language, and photo-based cashbooks. Founders sell to real customers from Week 1, not in exercises, and seed capital is released only when a founder evidences a milestone. All 10 in our first group made a first sale and served 170 paying customers. Support then tapers over 3 months so businesses outlast us.

Long-Term Impact

In our first group, all 10 founders earned their first income, six reached their own income target, and together they served 170 paying customers. That is where it starts. A founder who sells keeps selling: repeat customers, a cashbook she can keep, a plan for next year. She buys from local suppliers and hires as she grows. Graduates return as mentors and suppliers for the next group. Every business shifts what families, employers, and officials in West Java believe disabled youth can do.
