The Neuro Foundation believes that adults with Neurofibromatosis deserve just as much support as children receive. Last year, we created our "Schools Information Packs", and they have since become an important and in-demand service that the charity is able to provide. We want to offer the same opportunity to teach employers about the challenges their employees with Neurofibromatosis face, and offer them the chance to receive their own support, so they, in turn, can provide for their staff.
Life with a disability of any kind is expensive. In fact, on average it costs 550 per month more to live if you are disabled. To make matters worse, Neurofibromatosis is such a variable and complex condition that we at The Neuro Foundation offer medical staff guidelines...how can employers be expected to know about it? We want to offer our contacts, helplines, and services to help workplaces provide better for people with Neurofibromatosis, to help their staff reach their potential.
Our specialists have decades of experience. Our information is vetted by the UK's leading Consultants in Neurofibromatosis and genetic medicine. Our packs consist of a USB Key pre-loaded with loads of info, a letter introducing the charity's services, a contact sheet of who to call for advice or support, and of course access to our helpline. It's as simple as this: we provide the support, we just need to get it to those who need it!
346,000 people with disabilities of working age are unemployed. The national unemployment rate for people with disabilities is a whole 1.3% higher than the national average. Together we could help those with Neurofibromatosis stay out of these figures, and try and improve the national picture for those living with the condition. Additionally, employers need to show that they are making an effort to support their staff and we can help them do that too.
