Expanding Employment Pathways for Youth in Kilifi

Career Acceleration Program Graduation

Young people in Kilifi continue to move closer to meaningful employment as Mabati Technical Training Institute strengthens industry partnerships, expands practical training opportunities, and equips students with the skills employers are looking for.

Over the past four months, our focus has remained on ensuring that technical training leads to real workplace experience and sustainable livelihoods.

So far, 35 students have secured placements with different companies, giving them valuable workplace experience while strengthening their transition from training into employment.

Our partnerships continue to grow, with new placement opportunities being established through organizations such as Vonwald Senior School, while discussions with Safal Building Systems and Mabati Rolling Mills (MRM Athi River) are helping expand opportunities for future graduates.

In addition, prefabricated construction trainees are preparing to begin their industrial attachments, further increasing the number of students gaining hands-on experience.

Building Skills that Employers Need: Beyond technical training  the Safal MRM Foundation also celebrated the graduation of five Career Acceleration Programme Scholars under the Administrative Assistant Diploma, delivered in partnership with Pitman Training Kenya. The programme equips young people with workplace-ready administrative and professional skills, further expanding pathways to meaningful employment.

Additionally:

  • 126 new students successfully completed orientation and joined various training programmes.
  • 27 students are currently enrolled in the Angaza Digital Literacy Programme, strengthening the digital competencies increasingly required in today's workplace.
  • Interviews are also underway for students seeking opportunities through AutoXpress, opening additional employment pathways.

Supporting Career Progression in Healthcare:

Healthcare trainees continue to make significant progress toward entering the workforce.

In the last 3 months:

  • 23 Health-Caregiver trainees successfully completed their examinations.
  • 22 graduates have already secured industrial attachments in different hospitals.
  • One additional placement is currently being finalized.

These placements provide critical practical experience while preparing graduates for employment within Kenya's growing healthcare sector.

Learning Through Production: Students in the Garment Production Unit are actively working on orders for Mabati Rolling Mills and ALAF Ltd, allowing them to apply their classroom skills in a real production environment while building confidence, teamwork, and industry experience.

While these milestones are encouraging, many more young people are eager for opportunities. Demand for industrial attachments, employer partnerships, entrepreneurship support, and career guidance continues to grow.

With continued support from our GlobalGiving community, we aim to:

  • Expand partnerships with employers across Kenya.
  • Increase the number of students placed in jobs and industrial attachments.
  • Strengthen career mentorship and job placement services.
  • Support entrepreneurship for graduates pursuing self-employment.
  • Provide internship support for vulnerable students who struggle to meet transport and living costs during industrial attachments.

Every opportunity created brings another young person one step closer to financial independence and a brighter future.

Thank you for continuing to invest in the skills, confidence, and potential of the youth of Kilifi. Together, we are helping transform training into lasting livelihoods.

With Gratitude,

Safal MRM Foundation
