Eighty-five percent of Liberia's youth population is unemployed and our Employment Accelerator is aimed at creating a youth-led local workforce for the emerging Liberian economy. Through tailored trainings, we will develop a pipeline of young people who have the technical, social, and critical thinking skills for a changing local/global economy.
The youth unemployment rate in Liberia is at 85%, according to a UN report, and in a short time span, the same young people will need to take on leadership roles to define the country's future. Based on a survey we conducted, we found out that most job seekers lack the adequate knowledge, skills, network, and experiences needed to transition into the workforce and tackle Liberia's most pressing challenges. This project can potentially provide skills and jobs for +10,000 young people in 5 years.
The program will train participants in technical, social, and critical thinking skills and match them with jobs in Liberia through our online portal and employer partnerships, which guarantees their employment and lowers hiring and training costs for partner companies. Additionally, each fellow will be trained in job creation skills and have the option of joining our startup incubator for support and mentorship. With this model, we will be tackling the current unemployment crisis twofold.
At the end of our pilot year, we will train and place approximately 200 young people into decent jobs in companies across Liberia. After 5 years, our goal is to train up to 10,000 young people with the skills to find and create jobs for a fast changing local/global economy. Our jobs portal will help connect thousands of young people to valuable employment opportunities across Liberia.
