The escalation of violence in Gaza, the massive loss of life and infrastructure have not escaped your notice. At the same time, the situation in the West Bank is also intensifying; violence, closures, demolitions and loss of livelihood are current common themes. With your help, Karama can continue its emergency services to help households meet basic needs, especially food &medicine. Karama also plans to restart its "cash-for-work" program, to offer a dignified income for workers who lost jobs.
The crippling occupation of Palestine came to a new escalation in October 2023, resulting in an enormous level of destruction and loss of life. The occupation has intensified in the West Bank too. More than 230 Palestinian deaths since the start of the war (caused by violence from both soldiers & settlers) and huge arrest campaigns keeping the whole population in its grip. Widescale mobility restrictions result directly in difficulties for people to work and provide for their families.
Meeting basic needs has become precarious for many Palestinian families because of difficult access to employment, loss of income, rising food prices, and faltering supplies of basic resources. Currently, Karama is mainly focusing on supporting the basic needs of their fellow citizens, especially food &medicine, because these have become very expensive and difficult to obtain. Karama will also restart a "cash-for-work" program, to give workers a chance to make a dignified income.
But financial aid to the West Bank when the situation in Gaza is so urgent? Of course, all aid in Gaza is important. Hospitals and good humanitarian organizations there deserve all support. At the same time, however, the need for intervention in the West Bank is also increasing and more households have used up any buffers they have. Karama can therefore not sit silent when the needs around it are increasing. Support us to help more households meet their basic needs during this challenging time.
