The earthquake that hit central and southern Turkey on February 6, 2023, killed more than 55,000 people in Turkey and Syria. It is the world's deadliest earthquake since the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and the fifth-highest death toll among earthquakes in the 21st century. A total of 6,217 buildings collapsed in 10 states across Turkey, leaving more than 15 million people homeless, and about a year and a half later, many still live in containers and temporary tents.
A-PAD Korea conducted a demand survey focusing on the disaster victims (the disabled, pregnant women, the elderly, and children) in container villages and tent villages in Eastenderun and Antakia regions and supported 1,000 boxes of family daily necessities packages (salt, cooking oil, sugar, rice (4.5kg), jam, flour, macaroni, pasta, snacks, and large towels). The package was distributed to six camps (including tent villages) as much as a family of five to six people can live for a month.
In addition, through the demand survey, 600 pads for adult diapers for the elderly and the disabled, and 600 underwear sets (two bottoms and one top) were provided for children aged 0 to 5. 1,500 play sets (color pencils, sketchbooks, paints) were delivered to the container village for a large number of children.
It is expected that interest at home and abroad will decrease and it will take a long time to return to daily life, but there was a difficulty in supplying daily necessities immediately because the government subsidies were only about 100,000 won irregularly. In addition, compared to the support and interest at the beginning of the disaster, it was psychologically depressed in an atmosphere where each person had to survive on their own. I expressed my deep gratitude to those who did not forget to return and even provided goods support.
About 1 year after the disaster, no one is paying attention. As a result, support is scarce, and the lives of the victims are in a difficult situation. We still need your support.
Thank you.
