By Enamul Haque | Executive Directoer

Village Initiative for Empowerment of Women (VIEW) has planned to help 1000 flood affected families in Northern Bangladesh who have lost their homes or livelihoods. Assistance will be offered to the most affected people in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram District in Bangladesh. The assistance includes multipurpose cash grants to those eligible as such they can restore their normal lives. Recipients will be able to use the cash grants to purchase essential item/commodities’ to meet their daily family needs.

In Kurigram, flood situation worsened again due to swelling of the major Rivers including Dharla and Teesta rivers. The Dharla River was flowing 19 centimeter above its danger level in the morning. Besides, floodwater inundated many houses and damaged Aman paddy and vegetables in the District. Meanwhile, erosion by Dharala has taken a serious turn in 67 points of the district including Charbazra in ulipur upazila, Sardob, Moghalbasa in Sadar upazila, Char Mekli in Phulbari upazila and Dhaurarkuthi in Bhurungamari upazila of the district. Some 50 establishments including a primary school building have been devoured by the river in the last two days. Considering the flood victim peoples affected by devastating flood situation emergency response is necessary to provides cash and foods.

Conclusion: Based on the flood experienced over the project period no substantial funding were channeled in support of the project though it was a 6 months project. However. Most flood affected peoples restored their lives with the help of multi-stakeholders support. Considering the circumstances I would like to suggest to conclude/discontinue the project.
