Summary

Village Initiative for Empowerment of Women (VIEW) has planned to help 1000 flood affected families in Northern Bangladesh who have lost their homes or livelihoods. Assistance will be offered to the most affected people in Lalmonirhat and Kurigram District in Bangladesh. The assistance includes multipurpose cash grants to those eligible as such they can restore their normal lives. Recipients will be able to use the cash grants to purchase essential items to meet their daily needs.

Problem Context;

Lalmonirhat and Kurigram Districts, rendering several thousand people marooned. In Lalmonirhat, some 5,000 people have been marooned as the low-lying areas were inundated due to the incessant rainfall for the last two days. Some fresh areas have been flooded in the district as the Teesta River was flowing 20 centimeter above its danger level causing immense sufferings to the river banks people. In Kurigram, flood situation worsened again due to swelling of the major Rivers Dharla and Dhutkumar.

The primary objective of a flood response program is to minimize the impacts and damages caused by flood events, protecting lives, livelihoods, and communities. This is achieved through a combination of preparedness, response, and recovery efforts, with the goal of reducing risk, enhancing resilience, and ensuring a timely and effective response to flood emergencies.

Planed Solution of the Constraints/problems

* Provide Emergency cash grants for most flood affected peoples

* Provide Wash kits

 * Reconstruction/ rebuilt damaged houses caused by flood

 * Coordinate with all level stakeholders * Provide medication

* Assist peoples to restore their normal lives.

* Provide supports to sanitation, health and water

Planed Long-Term Impact

The floods actually help the farmers by depositing fertile silt and this enables them to grow rice, sugar, jute and other crops. Bangladesh is predominantly an agricultural country together with livestock, poultry, fisheries and forestry and where lives and livelihood depend on this for food security and employment. Asset-transfer are predominantly are the better strategy for providing humanitarian assistance as such the affected people will be able to restore their normal lives..

Progress of the project:

It was aimed to assist flood affected peoples in the proposed areas aiming  to minimize the impacts and damages caused by flood events, protecting lives, livelihoods, and communities. The assistance included multipurpose cash grants to those eligible as such they can restore their normal lives. Recipients will be able to use the cash grants to purchase essential items to meet their daily needs. It is very unfortunate to say that only $45 USD were raised out of targeted $USD 5000. As a result, it was not possible to cover all project peoples. Besides VIEW were given BDT 20,00 which is equivalent to USD 150.Considering the circumstances I should appeal to GlobalGiving Team to phase out the project since no monies yet raised and I do not see any possibility to be raised money in days to come. Considering overall situation please Ex- conclude the project from the Dashboard of GlobalGiving Community Platform.
