On Sept 23, 2025, Typhoon Ragasa struck eastern Taiwan with Category 5 winds and torrential rain. The overflow of the Matai'an landslide lake flooded Guangfu Township in Hualien, destroying bridges, cutting railways, and leaving thousands stranded. The Mustard Seed Mission (MSM) launched emergency response, delivering food, water, blankets, and hygiene kits, while mobilizing volunteers for evacuation, debris clearance, and recovery to support the most vulnerable families.
Typhoon Ragasa caused catastrophic flooding in eastern Taiwan. As of Sept 24, 14 people died, 34 were injured, and ~124 remain missing. Over 7,900 residents were evacuated, with 8,500 sheltered, while 2,015 households lack power and 4,378 lack water. Guangfu, Fenglin, and Wanrong townships were hardest hit, with homes submerged and roads cut. Vulnerable families already facing poverty or fragile housing lost shelter, livelihoods, and basic safety.
The Mustard Seed Mission (MSM) is delivering rapid aid to affected families. Relief includes food, safe water, frozen meals, tea eggs, blankets, hygiene kits, and urgent cash. MSM coordinates with township offices and local shelters to protect children, elderly, and vulnerable households. Volunteers and Cash-for-Work Disaster Relief teams support debris clearance, house cleaning/restoring, and hot-meal provision, helping families return home and recover with dignity.
This project ensures families not only survive but also recover with dignity. By restoring access to food, water, and safe shelter, MSM helps thousands return home faster. Beyond relief, we will strengthen resilience through preparedness training, volunteer engagement, and Cash-for-Work Disaster Relief programs. Families will regain secure housing, children can return to school, and communities will rebuild stronger and more self-reliant.
