Project Story From Schoolteacher to Lifeline: Adrienn's Story

By Overseas Team | Member of Overseas Team

Thank you, as always, for your generous support! In today’s report, rather than sharing our usual routine progress updates, we want to bring you directly to the heart of our mission by sharing a warm message from one of our dedicated local team members on the ground in Ukraine.

Before the war reshaped her world, Szkoropadszky-Margitics Adrienn was an elementary school teacher and a devoted mother of three in Ukraine. When conflict erupted in 2022, she immediately stepped up as a volunteer, working quietly alongside her husband, Father Péter—the head of our local partner, the Greek Catholic Caritas—to support displaced families seeking refuge.

By late 2023, the war’s heavy toll reached her classroom. As fathers and grandfathers were drafted to the frontlines and families fled in search of safety, student enrollment fell by half. Adrienn’s local school was forced to downsize, and she lost the job she loved.

Yet, where one door closed, another opened. Terra Renaissance welcomed Adrienn to the team, relying on her deep connection to the community and exceptional resilience. Today, she serves as Chief Kitchen Coordinator, overseeing six operational community kitchens that prepare and serve hot, nutritious meals daily to those who need them most.

"Every day, I use my experience as a mother and homemaker to stretch every dollar—sourcing fresh ingredients at the best prices so no one goes to bed hungry."

— Adrienn, Chief Kitchen Coordinator

The Growing Crisis Behind the Kitchen Doors

While headline news shifts, the reality on the ground in Ukraine grows more challenging every day:

  • Rising Inflation & Soaring Food Prices: Skyrocketing ingredient costs make it increasingly difficult to stretch kitchen budgets.
  • Depleted Community Workforce: With many young adults displaced or drafted, our remaining local population consists largely of elderly and ill individuals, making recruiting kitchen staff a daily hurdle.
  • Invisible Hunger: Countless seniors, sick individuals, and displaced mothers rely entirely on these daily hot meals for survival and human connection.

Despite these hurdles, Adrienn and her team continue to cook daily. But faced with budget constraints and rising costs, we cannot keep these six kitchens open without your help.

How Your Support Makes an Impact

Every donation directly funds essential food supplies and kitchen operations, turning your generosity into tangible comfort for a suffering family.

  • $10 provides hot, fresh, and nutritious meals for 4 displaced individuals.
  • $25 purchases a week’s supply of essential staples (grains, oil, meat, and fresh vegetables) for a community kitchen.
  • $50 feeds a vulnerable elderly citizen or bedridden neighbor for an entire month.
  • $100 helps keep a community kitchen fully operational amidst rising energy and food inflation.

About Us: A Trusted Partnership on the Ground

Terra Renaissance is a certified international non-profit organization dedicated to peacebuilding and humanitarian relief. Since 2022, we have worked hand-in-hand with our trusted local partner, Greek Catholic Caritas, to deliver immediate, accountable, and dignified support directly to Ukrainians affected by conflict. By hiring local staff like Adrienn, we ensure that aid is managed efficiently by people who know their community’s needs best.

Act Now: Help Keep the Stoves Burning

A hot meal is more than just sustenance—it is a warm reminder to the people of Ukraine that they have not been forgotten by the world.

Adrienn and her team are ready to cook, but they need ingredients in the pots. Please make a tax-deductible donation today to support our Ukraine Community Kitchens.
