NEF is providing emergency relief to help Sudanese refugees in South Kordofan fight the real and eminent threat of famine, which would be devastating in a region already ravaged by civil war.
Without immediate and large-scale support, tens of thousands of Sudanese refugees will face famine. Since fighting began in June, Sudanese have been displaced throughout South Kordofan. Although the threat from military action has lessened, the refugees now returning to their villages face another crisis: famine. While away they have missed the critical window to plant their fields.
To help avert yet another famine in Africa, NEF has mobilized to provide Sudanese refugees with the supplies needed for the growing season. Our comprehensive, common-sense approach is providing equipment for planting and harvesting, seeds for fast-maturing crops, and cultivation training. We are also paying laborers to help families prepare their fields so they will be ready to plant before the opportunity is lost.
NEF is working together with other humanitarian partners to ensure that our collective efforts provide Sudanese refugees with all of the emergency assistance they need to survive, and that communities have the resources they need to re-build.
