Since 2016 MedAcross has treated more than 18,000 patients living in remote villages in Southern Myanmar, without access to basic healthcare needs. Due to the ongoing civil war, the situation has now reached dramatic proportions. The international community has shown little interest in Myanmar and many NGOs have left the country due to lack of funds. Help us stay in Myanmar to treat people living in extreme economic and social distress.
Following the February 1, 2021 coup d'etat, Myanmar is experiencing a national crisis that has resulted in the internal displacement of approximately 3 million persons (OCHA report). The disruption of the supply chain, rising prices, product shortages and loss of access to agricultural livelihoods have worsened the socio-economic situation of people, particularly in rural areas. In this context, access to healthcare has become challenging with a dramatic increase of out-of-pocket expenses.
MedAcross will reach rural villages in the Kawthaung district with a fully equipped mobile clinic and provide free treatment to patients living far from medical facilities and deliver immediate support for pregnant women and malnourished children. Our medical staff trains Community Health Volunteer in each remote village to increase health prevention, assist chronic patients and support MedAcross staff through telemedicine consultations.
After more than 6 years of work in Myanmar, Medacross is now struggling to keep its activities open. In such a sitiation with 17 milions people in humanitarian need, the presence of NGOs is crucial to ensure basic rights to the population. By donating to this project you'll allow Medacross to treat thousands of people and train community health volunteers that will support people living in rural and remote areas close to military clashes who can not afford their basic health needs.
