Karamoja needs more than sympathy. It needs urgent action, sustained support and partners who are willing to stand with vulnerable communities until families can recover.
The latest IPC assessment paints a deeply concerning picture: 473,000 people in Karamoja are currently facing Crisis or Emergency levels of acute food insecurity, including 41,000 people in Emergency. All nine districts are classified as IPC Phase 3 (Crisis).
Although the IPC projects some seasonal improvement between August 2026 and February 2027, it also warns that food insecurity will remain persistent, particularly in Kaabong, Kotido, Karenga and Moroto, where significant proportions of households are expected to remain in Crisis.
This means that we cannot wait for the next harvest and hope everything will be fine.
Families need immediate assistance to survive today, but they also need opportunities to recover tomorrow. That is why our campaign seeks to combine emergency food assistance with longer-term resilience.
We want to help vulnerable households access food while supporting solutions that can reduce their dependence on emergency relief—including drought-resilient agricultural practices, livelihood recovery, livestock support and community-based resilience.
The urgency is particularly great for children. More than 122,000 young children are projected to experience acute malnutrition during the current analysis period, with thousands facing severe acute malnutrition.
